San Francisco: City of Bigots

For a great example of the intolerance of liberal “tolerance”, look no further than the anti-Christian bigots who run things in the City by the Bay: San Francisco.

Christian Teens’ Rally Irks San Francisco’s City Fathers

mark lenoHere’s state assemblyman Mark Leno, aka “Head Bigot”, who calls the Christian youth rally a “fascist mega-pep rally”, and tells these praying teenagers that they should “get out of San Francisco”. Hey, love the tolerance there, Mr. Assemblyman! Protestors chanted mindless slogans at the young people, calling them (without justification) racists, sexists, and anti-gay.

Hey, but at least there’s Barry Bonds…wait, never mind.

  2. Intolerant Tolerance! Coming to a church near you. Only in America can a group of God-fearing Christ-following teenagers gather for a rally that promotes worship, holiness, and surrender to Christ only to receive a resolution against them by the city fathers and be condemned by protesters for being “fascists,”
“racist,” “sexist,” and “anti-gay.” The question is, just how far will this go? How long will it be before city fathers in your community decide to adopt similar resolutions against the activities of YOUR local congregations?

  3. Okay, I have things I both agree and disagree with on both sides here: one, San Francisco has a very large GLBT population and some of them have been around since the stone age; they remember well what it was like to have to hide for fear of going to jail, and they’re getting militant in their old age. It doesn’t surprise me at all that they’d react the way they did. Two, I’ve met Ron Luce and I used to be a big part of Teen Mania ministries (I once played the part of the punk in the “Allegiance” drama). I’m sure they meant well, but they’re not very tactful in their choice of words and never have been.

It’s easy for Christians to sit back and cross their arms with a disgusted look on their face and say, “we’re just trying to make things better and keep our kids out of trouble!” But what you don’t realize is some of the things you say are very easily taken offensively. I remember it very well; I once had the audacity to tell a gay man who was dying of AIDS on a street corner in DC that if he hadn’t been living in sin, he wouldn’t be dying. I wish more than anything that I could take those words back now; you can’t say things like that and expect to gain any sort of respect.

If you feel you can change things, CULTIVATE RELATIONSHIPS FIRST. Don’t point fingers and tell people what their problem is, earn their respect.

As for the counter-protesters, yes, they were probably going overboard; but none of us knows exactly what was said (though I have my suspicions) and none of us can say conclusively that one side was entirely right or wrong.

  4. An real update here. I recently was at a Battle Cry Leadership Summit, and Ron Luce informed us that the Mayor of SF had personally apologized to Ron fo rthe way they were treated, and is currently scheduled to make an appearance at Battle Cry 2007. we’ll see if he follows through, but it is a great step.
