California City to Enforce Immigration Law
This phrase comes from the 1978 "Jonestown massacre" in which most members of the Peoples Temple cult, blindly following their leader Jim Jones, committed suicide by drinking cyanide-laced Kool-Aid.
Radically Tolerant - of all people, irrespective of race, faith, circumstance. As a person, you will be treated with the respect and dignity you deserve as an individual created in the image of God.
Radically Intolerant - of slipshod reasoning, emotion without intellectual substance, bad ideas, lazy thinking, cowardly ad hominem attacks, the preposterous notion that 9/11 is some government conspiracy (proceed directly to the Loony Bin; do not pass "Go"; do not collect $200), the designated hitter, and the Dallas Cowboys.

Woah, novel concept! Law enforcement!
God forbid we actually obey the laws in whichever country we live in. I mean, laws are just there to make us feel safe, not actually protect us, right?
I have no problem with people immigrating. But is it so hard to come in the right way? Why come in the back door? That’s what makes me suspicious!

The point exactly, Mel. I get tired of hearing people say that folks like us are “anti-immigration”, or, worse, even “racist” or something. No, that’s patently silly…we have laws; we have them for good reason. They should be enforced. If you don’t like the law, then change the law, but don’t side with people whose very first act involves breaking the law of our country. It’s ridiculous.

We had a massive demonstration here in Phoenix yesterday. Over 15,000 people marched down 24th street to John Kyl’s office to protest his proposed amendment to give illegal immigrants up to five years to leave the country and apply for legal residence from their country of citizenship. Personally, I don’t think we should give them that long. Every time I drive to San Diego, I have to go through at least two, sometimes four, border patrol checkpoints; every single time, they’ve caught someone smuggling illegals in. Once I remarked to an officer that I was glad they were going back to Mexico, and he said, “are you kidding me? They’re not going back. INS is going to let them go.” That galled me.
The news reported many of these people saying, “Americans are racist! They just want us gone!” No, I want you to come into my country legally. One man talked about how so many illegals have families and have settled, and how heartless it was to make them leave, and all I could do was shake my head. I’m as Irish as we come; I speak Gaelige with a fair amount of fluency and I’m very proud of my heritage. But you know what? I wouldn’t want any of the 50,000 illegal Irish immigrants in this country given any special favors, either. Ireland’s Taoiseach (prime minister), Bertie Ahern, is trying to get just that for those illegals. It’s irritating.

Amnesty excuses initial wrongdoing. Deportation is a logistics nightmare — improbable at best. I heard a really simple solution from a well known talk show host, (not Rush). He said to withold what they’re here for be it non emergency health care, jobs, food stamps, whatever. If they aren’t tourists with money to spend, if they have no relatives who are here legally to support them, they will go back. I will suggest the government provide a free one way bus ride. Then go after the counterfeit ID makers.
Across the Flow ~ Mar 29, 2006 at 1:38 pm
You’re right, Across, and the fact is that there are enough laws on the books now to deal with the problem; they just need to be enforced. Employers should be fined for hiring illegals, and all social services should be cut for illegals. This would not include emergency health care services; it should not penalize, of course, “Good Samaritans” who help people genuinely in need.
Further, we need to pass legislation that changes the provision that says “all people born in America are automatically American citizens” to “all people born in America to legal residents” are American citizens.

There’s an idea I like, Byron. The last thing we need is illegals coming over to have their children and have some loophole through which they can stay here.
I’m very tired of watching all of these demonstrations. If you notice, 99% of them are illegals or relatives of illegals. Every single one of the marchers interviewed here were from Mexico originally. The only person who would demonstrate against the safety of this country is the kind of person who would break the law to get here.
