MSM Bias Example #84750384, re the SCOTUS
Here’s the headline from today’s Chicago Tribune: “Nomination Vexes Liberals, Women”. Let that soak in for a moment, and allow it to be instructive as to the typical bias of the MSM…
It’s understandable that liberals are “vexed” by the President’s choice—but (NEWS FLASH!!!) President Bush is not a flaming liberal. He’s managed to nominate—be sensitive to your liberal friends who may be shrieking in dismay—someone who AGREES with him. Perish the thought! The very idea that the President who was elected with the most popular votes in history, who works with a Senate that is more Republican than at any time in my lifetime and a House that is Republican as well, would nominate a fellow conservative, well, that “vexes” liberals.
As well it should. Liberals, though, should be even more vexed by the thought that their cherished values, which they want to publicly proclaim as “mainstream” (that word’ll come up a lot in the pre-hearing blather), are increasingly out of step with an American public that is ridding itself of the leftist MSM’s monopoly on the news as rapidly as possible. The jig is up, libs; America is onto you now.
But the main point I want to make is about that second word: “women” are “vexed” by the Roberts nomination.
Please.
The “reason” that women would, presumably, be “vexed” is that John Roberts apparently may—and let me repeat, may—actually be of the belief that Roe v. Wade was a travesty of judicial malpractice, a Contitutionally-illegitimate decision rendered by renegade justices who saw themselves more as social engineers than as jurists. Which, of course, it was.
But here’s the little secret: “women” aren’t some monolith of belief when it comes to the subject; the nation is fairly split on abortion, holding nuanced and, sometimes, contradictory views on the subject. And this spectrum of opinion runs across all sexes (note, I said, “all” so as not to further vex our liberal friends who are still counting the number of such. See, I can have a heart.).
What the headline should have said—were accuracy actually a concern of the MSM—is “Nomination Vexes Liberal Women”. Fair enough. They should be “vexed”. It’s just possible that, with another nomination or two like John Roberts, states that want to restrict abortion might actually be able to do so. Imagine that: the 10th Amendment actually taken seriously! The liberal sacrament of abortion only available to the degree that individual states decide, by legislative deliberation, to allow it. The dreaded “patchwork of laws”—run for the hills!!! Poor women in Utah might be denied the sacrament of abortion…horrors!
So thanks, dear friends at the Trib, for another example of your liberal bias in action. It made for a good laugh today.

This phrase comes from the 1978 "Jonestown massacre" in which most members of the Peoples Temple cult, blindly following their leader Jim Jones, committed suicide by drinking cyanide-laced Kool-Aid.

Women are vexed? 1. Not news. 2. Takes the heat off me for awhile. 3. Redundant?
