April 15th: Not Just Tax Day
Subtitle: Baseball Does Something Right
When we think of April 15, we think of Tax Day. According to USA Today, today is “Jackie Robinson Day“.
In that USA Today ad, the wording was worth the read:
Look around your train. Or bus. Visit the water fountain. Turn on a ballgame. The world isn’t divided into black and white. But it wasn’t always like that. It was April 15, 1947 when Jackie Robinson broke the Major League Baseball color barrier. He didn’t have to step up to the plate that day. But he did. The rest is history. So, as you go about your business, take a moment to remember Jackie Robinson. His courage. His character. His sacrifice. Look around you. And see why, in baseball parks across America, April 15th has been declared Jackie Robinson Day. Forever.
I will.

This phrase comes from the 1978 "Jonestown massacre" in which most members of the Peoples Temple cult, blindly following their leader Jim Jones, committed suicide by drinking cyanide-laced Kool-Aid.
